Mum, 33, dies from incurable cancer after seeing GP with really bad cough

Zoe Winters explains how to check for breast cancer

Kirsty Guy, 33, had previously successfully battled breast cancer back when she was pregnant with her daughter Hallie.

Following an ordeal of difficult treatment and having her baby prematurely, the brave mum-of-two was eventually given the all-clear from the deadly disease.

However, two years later, something felt off when Kirsty developed a severe cough.

Putting it down to a chest infection at first, she went to see her GP.

Unfortunately, follow-up tests revealed that she was suffering from secondary metastatic breast cancer.

Her husband Shaun told the Liverpool Echo: “She came down with a really bad cough and it got to the point where it was keeping us up at night and getting on top of her.

“With it being Easter, we had to wait a few days but it was basically confirmed she had lung cancer and it was terminal.”

Kirsty’s devastating diagnosis describes breast cancer that has spread to the lungs.

The then 32-year-old was told by specialists that her condition was “treatable but not curable”, so she immediately began her treatment with a hope to prolong her life.

In March this year, the mum developed a new “unbearable” symptom in the form of horrible headaches as her treatment continued.

Then, just a week before Kirsty was due to fly away on a family holiday, the mum was told the cancer had spread to her brain.

In just two weeks, she deteriorated rapidly and died on May 27, aged 33, leaving behind her husband and children, Scarlett and Hallie.

Shaun said: “Literally in two weeks she deteriorated. She had memory loss and dizziness.

“We were due on holiday the Saturday after but we were told she wasn’t fit to fly so we went to Center Parcs instead.

“Our last holiday away and she loved every minute of it. She even went swimming for the first time since her mastectomy.

“We thought she had been given the all clear in 2020 and that was that but this cancer was secondary so we took that as the cancer hadn’t gone completely.

“She was beautiful, with the illness she took everything on the chin, she was used to getting bad news and said there was nothing you can do, what’s the point in crying.”
