Rebel Wilson On What She’s Learned Since Turning 40

As Australia’s Golden Girl, it was only a matter of time before Rebel Wilson had Hollywood eating out of the palm of her hand. After making audiences laugh around the world with her trademark humour and quick wit, Rebel Wilson has become a bonafide star, walking the red carpet and attending the Awards shows as she continues to be the go-to choice for characters that demand hilarity and a larger-than-life person behind them.

While she’s long been known for her comedic charm, recently Rebel is making just as big a name for herself as something of a fitness guru as she is an actor. In recent months, the star undertook something of a lifestyle revolution, working to improve her fitness and diet, a process that saw her drop close to 30kg and improve her relationship with food.

Though Rebel learned during this time that overeating was not being kind to herself, her physical transformation certainly isn’t what has seen her stick with her weight loss and healthy lifestyle. Rather, as Rebel explains, it’s her personality and what health gives back to her in terms of energy that sees her move forward.

“I know I’m a bit proud of myself now, and I try to put hot pics up on Instagram, but I’m someone who has never traded on my looks,” she said in an interview with Who What Wear.

She added: “I’ve turned things people didn’t think were beautiful or saw as a disadvantage – like being overweight – into a positive for myself and for my career. Like playing characters like Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect movies, a character who is so close to my heart.”

At 41, it’s safe to say Rebel has learned a lot during the span of her career and says one thing in particular she’s realised is to cut the bullshit from her life, including everything from people who aren’t treating her right to certain behaviours. “I’ve had enough experience in life now to know if someone is treating me right,” she said.

“It’s kind of really cool being in my 40s. I just feel like I know myself way more – what I deserve and what I am worthy of.”

Speaking about her weight loss in a separate interview with 2DayFM, Rebel spoke about how she’s noticed people treating her differently since slimming down. “What’s been really interesting to me is how other people treat you,” she said.

“Sometimes being bigger, people didn’t look twice at you and now that I’m in good shape people offer to carry my groceries to the car and open doors for you. Is this what other people have experienced all the time?”
