From 1975 to 1978, he completed two residencies, one in anesthesia and general surgery, and a second in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Washington University, Barnes Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. From 1977 to 1978, he was also chief resident and a fellow in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Washington University.
