In a study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, aromatherapy oils such as cedarwood were investigated in how they could help with alopecia.
The study noted: “Eighty-six patients were randomised into two groups.
“The active group massaged essential oils including thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedarwood in a mixture of carrier oils into their scalp daily.
“The control group used only carrier oils for their massage, also daily.
“Treatment success was evaluated on sequential photographs by two dermatologists.
“Nineteen of 43 patients in the active group showed improvement compared with six of 41 patients in the control group.
“An alopecia scale was applied by blinded observers with the degree of improvement assesses as significant.
The study concluded that aromatherapy oils like cedarwood are a safe and effective treatment for alopecia treatment.
Treatment with this oil was significantly more effective than treatment with the carrier oil alone.
It has been scientifically proven that when combined with a few other natural oils, cedar wood oil is capable of promoting hair growth.
A Scottish study at the Department of Dermatology studied the effects of oils on people who suffered with alopecia.
Alopecia is a disease which causes the hair follicles to stop working leading to baldness.
The double-blind study showed an improvement in hair growth by 44 percent.
The changes were quite noticeable as the patients hair was restored in length and thickness.
