- She’s previously posted photos and video of herself walking with the help of a cane and a scooter.
Selma Blair regularly keeps fans updated on her MS symptoms and treatment on Instagram, but she’s been pretty quiet about her health lately. Now, she’s back with new info, and it’s amazing.
In a new Instagram post, Selma shared that she has brand-spanking new walking braces. “Insurance came through!!!! Thank you prosthetic and orthotic group for finding me such a game changer of walking support,” she wrote. “I am giggly. @ottobockus_ca I am impressed. #practice. I pick up corrective patterns really easily, so I am especially happy to have support to rewire brain. This and @the_alinker_world have been invaluable. #independence feels great.”
In the video, Selma can be seen wearing Ottobock braces, which strap on around her calves. She films herself smoothly walking toward a mirror and seems thrilled with the results. “So happy,” she says in the video, before thanking the company for helping her to find the right walking aid for her. She ended up this sweet note: “Yay!”
People were beyond stoked for her in the comments. “👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Unreal!!!!!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼,” one person wrote. “Omg this made my smile so big!!! I’m so happy for you!!! 💛💛” another said.

In case you’re not familiar with it, multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that impacts how information flows between the brain and the body, according to the National MS Society. Common symptoms include difficulty walking, fatigue, numbness or tingling, weakness, pain, and depression.
Selma has been open in the past about struggling with her gait due to MS. In late 2018, she shared on Instagram that she uses a cane to help with her balance. She also revealed in the comments that her cane lets other people know that she’s at risk of falling. “My cane is also to alert people I may trip (likely) or fall or slur,” she wrote. (She’s also talked about how she suffers from spasmodic dysphonia, which makes it difficult for her to speak.)
Of course, you probably remember how Selma completely owned the Vanity Fair Oscars party red carpet in 2019 with that cane.
Selma has also raved about the Alinker walking bike, which she uses to get around quickly.
These days, it seems like Selma has a few options for getting around—and that’s so awesome.
